PATNA: It was a poignant moment for the family members of Noamundi police station officer-in-charge Ram Sagar Singh whose dead body was brought to Patna on Friday.
Family members who had controlled themselves for long broke down at the sight of his coffin. A large group of relatives and friends had gathered at his residence in AG Colony area to bid farewell to the hero who had fought till his last breath.

Singh died fighting militants in the worst ever Naxalite violence at Baliwa village in West Singhbhum district on Wednesday night.
Singh''s wife, Susheela Devi, who arrived here in the morning was inconsolable, perhaps because she had not been able to say even a final goodbye to a partner of many years. She was not even allowed near the coffin as his body presented an unbearable sight.
Even as the family waited for the body to arrive from Chaibasa, she fainted every few minutes. "Why did he leave me like this?" she kept on uttering to her self.
Her relatives around her consoled her saying that her husband had died a glorious death. But she was unable to come to terms with the fact that he went to a jungle and never returned after that.
"He is lost in the jungle," she muttered, tears flowing uncontrollably from her cheeks. Her three daughters also failed to console her. Water was sprinkled on her face to bring her back to consciousness.

When all attempts to console her failed, her younger son was called to give her support in this trying time. Even he could not help as he himself lost his composure on seeing the condition of his mother.
Later, he said that he was sad, but proud of the sacrifice his father had made. Speaking fondly of his father, he said that he was a fighter and a disciplined person who worked very hard throughout his life.
"He inspired me a lot and his death is even more inspiring as he always taught that one must face every challenge boldly. Now that he has died while performing his duty, he has become a role model for me," he said.
"It is a pity that I did not get the time to serve him. He was such a nice father. Very few will get one like him," he said, in tears.
Other members of the family also expressed similar feelings. Everyone felt proud of the sacrifice Singh had made.
"We were told that he fought till the end. He succumbed to a shot fired by one of the militants after he exhausted all the bullets he had in his possession," informed Harendra Kumar, Singh''s son-in-law.
